Samsung Update Older Foldables With New Features

Samsung’s has rolled out a new update for its older Z Fold and Z Flip phones, allowing them to access the One UI 3.1.1 update to enjoy some of the features on the new Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 phones.

It’s an odd decision, and seems to be in direct competition with its aim to get Samsung users to upgrade their phones, but it is also likely to keep customers loyal to Samsung. Regardless of the motives, it is a generous move in an industry that often abandoned software support once newer models hit the market.

The new features available are the Drag and Split feature, which lets you tap and drag a link to open it on the second screen without removing the other screen.

The larger Fold models will get adjustable app windows for multitasking, and the Z Fold 2 and the earlier Z Flips will get the option to force apps into Flex Mode, which puts videos on one screen with controls on the other.

The One UI 3.1.1 update rolls out to Fold 2 and Z Flip owners today, with updates hitting the original Galaxy Fold in a week.
