Samsung Secures Third-Party Validation for QLED Quantum Dot Technology
Samsung Electronics has obtained ‘Real Quantum Dot Display’ certification from TÜV Rheinland for its QLED TV lineup, providing third-party validation of the company’s quantum dot technology and strengthening its premium television market position.
The German international certification organisation verified that Samsung’s QLED TVs comply with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62595-1-6 standard, which defines the application of quantum dot light converting units combined with blue light sources for standard QLED displays.
During the certification process, TÜV Rheinland analysed the light spectrum produced by Samsung QLED TVs and confirmed clear separation between red, green, and blue wavelengths, a critical indicator of colour accuracy.
This distinct wavelength separation is enabled by quantum dots and may be less pronounced in displays using alternative materials, potentially resulting in colour mixing or reduced clarity.

The certification encompasses Samsung’s complete premium TV range, including Neo QLED 8K models (QN990F, QN900F), Neo QLED 4K series (QN90F, QN85F, QN80F, QN70F), and QLED 4K televisions (Q8F, Q7F, Q6F).
Quantum dot technology uses semiconductor nanocrystals to produce pure colours by converting blue light into precise red and green wavelengths.
The technology aims to deliver enhanced colour reproduction and brightness compared to traditional LED displays.
The TÜV Rheinland certification provides independent verification of Samsung’s quantum dot implementation, offering consumers assurance about the technology’s performance claims.
The certification process involved rigorous testing of the displays’ spectral characteristics to ensure compliance with international standards.
Samsung’s achievement of this certification reinforces the company’s technological leadership in the premium television segment and provides a competitive advantage in marketing its QLED technology against alternative display technologies from competitors.
The certification covers the full spectrum of Samsung’s current premium television offerings, from entry-level QLED models to flagship Neo QLED 8K displays, ensuring consistent quantum dot performance across the entire product range.
