Samsung has issued an official response regarding a firmware update that rendered the HW-Q990D soundbar inoperable, along with other models such as the HW-Q800D and HW-S801D.
The company confirmed that a software update error was the cause and has pledged to offer free repairs for all affected units, regardless of warranty status.
The issue stemmed from firmware update 1020.7, released in early March, which caused affected soundbars to become stuck in eARC mode, preventing them from functioning.
Reports of the problem surfaced on Reddit, Samsung forums, and AVS Forum, leading Samsung to suspend the Over-the-Network (OTN) update.
Notably, users who updated via USB were not affected.
While Samsung has acknowledged the issue, its statement does not confirm whether a new firmware update will be released to fix the problem remotely or if affected units will need repair.
However, customers experiencing the issue can arrange a repair at no cost through Samsung’s service channels.
