UPDATED: Samsung Has A New Washing Machine Failure 100,000+ Impacted, Exploding Doors
Samsung who has a history of washing machine failures in Australia is facing a new warranty drama with the company forced to repair over 100,000 units due to a glass door in their new Bespoke washing machines exploding.
At this stage, the bulk the 106,173 defective washing machines have only been sold in South Korea with 14,685 shipped to other operations around the world. At this stage none of the faulty models have been shipped to Australia after Samsung last month, announced the launch of the Bespoke washing machine combo.
In a later update Samsung responded claiming 14,685 of their washing machines were not shipped to other operations around the world however they have not said where these models went.
They also claimed that “It was not a recall”.
“At Samsung, customer safety is our top priority. We can confirm that this issue does not impact front-load washer models sold outside of South Korea.”
Samsung has already begun to voluntarily offer free repairs of its defective front-load washing machines whose doors are prone to explosion according to the South Korean consumer watchdog the Korea Consumer Agency and Korean Agency for Technology and Standards.
These two organisations are now chasing down customers that purchased Samsung’s Bespoke Grande AI washers to “immediately request the repair” of glass doors to Samsung’s customer service channels.
Samsung has manufactured 106,173 large home appliances that are subject to similar defects during the period of September 2021 and May this year, and 91,488 units have been tracked to south Korean customers.
Samsung has told the watchdogs that the glitch originates from loose attachment of an outer glass cover and an outer door frame, often caused by foreign substances in between, in its manufacturing process.
Samsung’s decision to offer repairs has according to the Korean Herald, stopped the watchdogs from taking the next step, which would be an investigation in response to a series of consumer complaints filed with the KCA over the shattered outer layer of the glass doors after the explosions.
Some victims have also turned to online communities, where the accidents associated with defective washers have gone viral.
The KCA said Friday it has submitted a formal letter calling for an explanation.
