Reolink’s New Smart Doorbell Targets Australia’s Parcel Theft Problem
Reolink has launched its Video Doorbell 2nd Gen in Australia, adding a new battery-powered security device to its Qualcomm-based Power-Efficient Series.
Priced at A$229.99, the new model uses Qualcomm’s QCC730 micro-power Wi-Fi technology, which Reolink claims can extend battery life by up to 50% compared with standard Wi-Fi cameras.
It offers up to 10 months of use on a single charge, based on five minutes of recording per day, which the company says is twice the battery life of the first-generation model.
Reolink Australasia sales vice-president Nick Nigro said the model was designed to give homeowners and renters greater installation flexibility without sacrificing performance.

The launch comes as parcel security remains a concern for Australian households.
Reolink cited Finder research showing nearly one in five Australians had lost a parcel during the past year, while 4% had experienced theft directly from their property.
The Video Doorbell 2nd Gen records at 2048 x 2048 resolution and uses a square 1:1 aspect ratio designed to capture visitors and parcels from head to toe.
Its field of view spans 150 degrees horizontally and vertically, with HDR support intended to improve visibility in bright or high-contrast conditions.

On-device AI can identify people, vehicles, animals, visitors and packages without requiring a paid subscription.
Footage can also be stored locally on a microSD card with capacity of up to 512GB, removing the need for recurring cloud storage fees.
The doorbell can be installed completely wire-free or connected to existing 8–24VAC doorbell wiring to trickle-charge its battery. An optional wired mode using 16–24VAC power enables always-on operation and continuous recording.
Reolink has also added tamper alerts and a voice-masking feature for two-way audio calls.
Smart-home compatibility includes Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, IFTTT and Home Assistant when used with a compatible Reolink Hub.
