LG To Quit Plasma TV Production More OLED Models

LG To Quit Plasma TV Production More OLED Models

Both Panasonic and Samsung have already exited production of
plasma TVs

LG Home Entertainment President acknowledged that LG is now
studying when it should finally halt production of the plasma TV range which is
currently on sale in Australia.

Ha Hyun-hwoi, LG Electronics home entertainment president,
made the revelation during a media event in Korea to discuss its new OLED TV
business, essentially confirming what display experts had been expecting.

Hyun-hwoi told reporters to expect an announcement on the
issue shortly.

The decision follows LG’s aggressive rollout of new
large-screen Ultra HD OLED TVs that will be given a formal send off at the IFA
Show in Berlin in the next few days.

The company also recently launched a 55-inch curved screen
FullHD OLED.

Panasonic has already exited the plasma production business
and Samsung is scheduled to shut down its PDP production in November.

Chinese manufacturer Changhong Electric is the only other
manufacturer of plasma displays left with the Company now trying to convince
retailers to stock their plasma TV’s in Australia.
