The Internet giant has created a Google Search app and Chrome browser for Windows 8, making it the default browser on Windows 8s homescreens, and giving Microsoft Bing the boot. “The Google Search app comes with a clean and recognizable user interface. Our new voice search lets you naturally speak questions. The image search and image previews are built for swiping,” says Tamar Yehoshua, Google Search Product Director, announced in a blog yesterday.
Chrome on Win 8 has been customized for touchscreens, so has a few changes including larger buttons and the ability to keep the popular browser open next to other apps. Microsoft launched Windows 8 OS on Friday last, and its first stab at a tablet, called Surface also went on sale for $559.

| Recent figures from comScore show Google is the search engine leader with over 66% share (+0.3) in the US, with Microsoft trailing on 16%.
Google sites were the most used with 187 million visitors, followed by Microsoft with 167m, meaning the Internet giant will do everything it can to retain its leader position, as Microsft hope Windows 8 will win it some kudos (and eyeballs) in the OS world. |
