Premium TV Pricing War Tipped As LG Reveal 2022 OLED TV Range
Days after Samsung rolled out their new range of NEO QLED TV’s archrival LG has given a sneak peek into their 2022 OLED range, which is set to do battle in the premium market up against their archrival with the LG OLED offering tipped to be cheaper than the top end Samsung NEO OLED TVs.
Ironically, the OLED Samsung range which was revealed last week in the USA and Europe was omitted from the Australian 2022 TV range, with ChannelNews suspecting that Samsung has deliberately held their range of new OLED TV’s which uses LG OLED panels back until LG announces their pricing for the Australian market.
LG’s new 2022 OLED family, is comprised of several different series, they include a G2 Gallery Edition, C2, B2, and A2 series.
The C2 range will be available in 83″, 77″, 65″, 55″, 48″and 42-inch sizes.
The largest models of the G2 and C2 both have 83-inch display.
The G2 Gallery Edition if it comes to Australia will be available in 97″, 83″, 77″, 65″ and a 55-inch display models.
A new level of TV brightness appears to be the battle cry from both Samsung and LG with the new LG G2 now being described as the “Brightest OLED TV panel that LG has ever produced”.
Contributing to this newfound brightness is a new generation of processing power and “Brightness Boosters” as well as artificial intelligence software that can calculate the light in a room where a TV is being watched.
Australian pricing for the new LG range has not been released but if you use oversea’ s pricing as a guide the cost of a new LG OLED TV is either the same as last year’s models or cheaper.
Pricing, seen by ChannelNews reveal that the LG C2 4K OLED will start off at around AU$2,200 for the small 42-inch.
We believe that LG is set to undercut Samsung in the pricing of their top end models and if so, this could kick off a TV price war in the premium TV market.
LG has not announced release dates for the Australian market yet with retailers being told that they should start seeing stock in April and May with the low cost 42″ model tipped for late May or even June.
Samsung told ChannelNews that they already have stock of their 2022 TV range in Country despite shipping delays.
Also in the range is a 97-inch G2 OLED, but LG isn’t ready to share pricing or availability for the Australian market with insiders telling ChannelNews that this model may not make it to Australia.
LG’s premium 2022 OLEDs come with HDMI 2.1 support across all four ports allowing for full 48Gbps streaming, that’s if you could ever get this level in Australia.
Like Samsung LG has also moved to upgrade their webOS smart TV software this year.
The webOS version found on LG TV’s is different from the webOS version that LG is making available to OEM manufacturers.
In what appears to be a mirror of the new upgrades to Samsung’s premium TV range LG has announced ‘improved tone mapping ‘they also claim that they have improved the speaker system on their 2022 TVs.
Also, like Samsung some of the LG TV will have 144Hz VRR in 2022.
Here’s the breakdown in sizes and pricing for the US market. Not all these models will be available in Australia.
