Philips Pushes Android 14 Update to 2023–24 Google TVs
Philips is delivering a major free upgrade to its 2023 and 2024 Google TV models, rolling out Android 14 via over-the-air updates.
The same software comes preloaded on its 2025 range, but until now older sets were stuck on Android 12.
The firmware was first made available back in April as a manual USB download, noted by tech blog Toengel.
Owners had to install it themselves, meaning many missed out. But from this month, the update is landing automatically on supported TVs across Australia.
While Android 14 isn’t a radical redesign, it introduces smoother performance, quicker app launches and improved system stability.
Google has also baked in privacy and security upgrades, plus enhancements to HDR and HDMI handling, gaming support, and smart-home integration.

New features include Energy Modes, Picture-in-Picture (though not for streaming apps), and groundwork for Google TV’s planned Home control panel.
Some of the platform’s biggest changes now arrive directly through Google’s cloud services, but device compatibility depends on the installed Android version – making this update important for Philips customers.
The rollout covers a wide range of models. From 2024: Philips OLED959, OLED909, and the OLED809 family (including OLED819, 849, 859, and 889). From 2023: OLED908, OLED808 (and its regional variants), OLED708, PUS8808, and PUS8508 lines.
Philips’ 2025 TVs, including the flagship OLED810, ship with Android 14 out of the box, although many of the company’s newest sets now run Titan OS instead of Google TV.
Philips is not alone in refreshing older hardware.
Sony has also begun rolling out Android 14 to its TVs, while Google has updated Chromecast devices. The moves reflect growing competition in keeping connected TVs current with new features and better performance.
