Panasonic Brings Out The Best In 4K Blu-ray

Alongside new OLED TVs and sound systems, Panasonic have also announced a new range of 4K Ultra HD Premium Blu-ray players to round out its 2017 home theatre offering.

The new DMP-UB400 and DMP-UB300 4K Blu-ray players are Ultra HD Premium Certified and feature BT.2020 support for a wider gamut of colours that allows for “richer and more vibrant displays” according to Panasonic.

With the help of the Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory Blu-ray R&D facility, a HDR 4K Engine called the HCX (Hollywood Cinema Experience) Processor has been developed which, when paired with one of the company’s 4K Pro HDR TVs, delivers what Panasonic claims is the “most accurate movie playback, true to the filmmaker’s intention” with precise colours and optimal brightness.

“With these competitively-priced new models, Panasonic is opening up the amazing cinema-level viewing experience of 4K Blu-ray to a greater number of Australian consumers,” said Doug Campbell, Category Manager, AV and Imaging, Panasonic.

Other features include 4K Direct Chroma Up-scaling for 2K content, a ‘multi-tap process’ to interpolate 4K (4:2:0) Ultra HD Blu-ray signals to 4K (4:4:4), , and support for playback of high-res content.

Panasonic will also add a third 4K Blu-ray player, the DMR-UBT1, to the new range later this year, which features a two terabyte hard drive for Full HD recording, along with support for recording to Blu-ray discs.

The DMP-UP300 and DMP-UB400 will be available from June for RRP $449 and $549 respectively. Pricing hasn’t been announced for the DRM-UBT1, which is expected to launch in September.
