Optus To Broadcast Premium Olympic Events From Seven Coverage
Select ‘premium live events’ of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be broadcast in 4K Ultra HD exclusively to Optus 5G Home customers in a partnership announced with Seven.
Announced this morning, the intention behind the partnership is to make the Olympics available in 4K Ultra HD alongside Sevens broadcast.
The channel will broadcast the ‘best premium live events from Seven’s coverage of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020’ which could mean that only select events will be made available to Australian audiences in 4K Ultra HD.
The 4K Ultra HD broadcast will be available exclusively for Optus 5G Home customers on Fetch Mighty set-top boxes, with Seven West Media Chief Revenue Officer, Kurt Burnette predicting it to be ‘the most-watched Olympics and the biggest digital event in Australian streaming history’.
Since the time difference will be only one-hour, ‘Tokyo 2020 will feel like a home Games for Australians’ she said.
Seven will be supporting Optus through its exclusive partnership to deliver the pop-up 4K Ultra HD Linear Live streamed channel broadcast.
‘This exclusive partnership is another element of our 5G “Video Experience Network” which will allow us to ensure end-to-end delivery of 4K Ultra HD Video content to exclusive Optus customers.’
To access the broadcast Optus customers will be required to have a Fetch Mighty, with an active Fetch subscription, a 4K-ready television and Optus 5G home broadband plan.
It follows the appointment of Kelly Bayer Rosmarin to Optus CEO with Allen Lew returning to Singtel in Thailand.
