Old PlayStation Game Is A Chart Topper

Executive director of games at Circana, a consumer tracking firm, Mat Piscatella released a monthly analysis of game sales for the period of May 2024.

The finding revealed that spending on video games and hardware is down 6 per cent, however, overall year-to-date spending is 2 per cent higher.

It was also revealed that Ghost of Tsushima, released on May 16 for PC, has climbed to the top of the charts, defeating Homeworld 3, F1 24, Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

The continued dominance of Helldivers, as well as the success of Ghost of Tsushima, indicate the success of Sony’s PC strategy.

Ghost of Tsushima was first launched four years ago, back in 2020 on the PlayStation 4. It received a multiplayer mode, an expansion pack, and a director’s cut in 2021.

Xbox’s first-party release from May, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, wasn’t successful enough to make the top 20 in sales.

It ranked in at No#21 on the Xbox Series X and S, No#12 on Xbox Game Pass (for player engagement), and No#37 overall.

Minecraft remains strong, sitting in seventh place, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 reached the number three spot.

The resurgence of Fallout has paid off, with Fallout 4 hitting the number eleven spot, and Fallout 76 becoming the 11th most played game on Game Pass.

Sony is also ahead when it comes to hardware. The PlayStation 5 sold the most units. It was followed by the Nintendo Switch, then the Xbox Series X and S.

Sony’s handheld streaming console, the PlayStation Portal, is so far, the top-selling accessory for May and for 2024.
