Nintendo To Release New Switch In 2019
Nintendo is reportedly planning to release the next version of the Nintendo Switch in the second half of next year, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The Wall Street Journal does not contain any details on what new features and improvements this updated model could contain but quotes suppliers and insiders who claim to have direct knowledge of the potential upgrades.
However, one reported potential upgrade could be an improved LCD screen which is brighter, more vivid, and thinner than the original Switch. Reportedly similar to those found on “more recent smartphone LCDs”.
As Nintendo released several versions of each of its portable consoles, most notably the 3DS and 2DS, this news is not as much a surprise as it is inevitable.
When the Nintendo Switch hit shelves in 2017 it was well received with much fanfare and sold just under 20 million units. However, since the initial release, the momentum has slowed. Boosting sales is one of the core reasons for the release, according to the Wall Street Journal’s sources.
The release of the next iteration of Switch in the second half of 2019 would introduce the new console into the market ahead of its competitors’ next-gen consoles, including the next Xbox model set to be released in 2020.
