New $130K Tesla Burst Into Flames Within A Week
A limited-edition $130,000 Tesla Model S Plaid “spontaneously combusted” less than a week after its Pennsylvanian owner purchased the brand-new vehicle.
“Our client was trapped and could have died,” tweeted Ben Meiselas, a lawyer representing the owner.
Our firm & @AthleteDefender represent an exec who purchased new Tesla Plaid Model S, which was 1/250 shipped. On Tuesday it spontaneously combusted. Our client was trapped & could have died. We tried reaching out to Tesla & have been ignored so far. This is car after escape. pic.twitter.com/wXyJXbWggJ

The Model S Plaid is touted as being able to reach 321 km/hr, which is close to three times the maximum legal speed allowed on Australian roads. It can accelerate from zero to 96km in under two seconds.
Erupting into a fireball is not one of its advertised features.
Lawyer Mark Geragos told Reuters that when the car caught alight, the electronic door system failed and the driver was trapped. He escaped only by applying “force to push it open.”
