NBN Rollout Reaches 6M Premises & 2.7M Activations
Six million homes and businesses are now able to sign up for NBN services after 1.1 million premises were made serviceable in the last three months.
NBN said that the network is rolling out faster than ever due to the ‘Multi Technology Mix’, with an average of almost 100,000 premises being listed as ready for service each week for the past three months.
“The pace and scale of this project is unparalleled anywhere in the world and this latest milestone – six million ready for service – is testament to this fact,” said NBN CEO Bill Morrow.
Fibre-to-the-Node (FTTN) and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) deployments now account for over half of the total serviceable premises.
At this stage, less than half the number of premises that are able to sign up for an NBN service from an internet provider have done so, with activations at 2.7 million premises.
Morrow said that NBN aims to connect “eight million happy homes and businesses” to the network by 2020.
“The last three years have been dedicated to getting the network on track for a 2020 delivery. We won’t be taking our foot off the pedal until we are done, but our focus on the actual end user experience is more important than ever as we work with industry to connect the country at scale,” Morrow said.
