Microsoft Unveil 85″ Surface Hub 2S Smart Whiteboard
Microsoft has unveiled the next iteration of its Surface Hub 2 hardware, a 50-inch and 85-inch interactive whiteboard, the “Surface Hub 2S”, at a press event in New York. Local pricing and availability to be confirmed.
The 50-inch 2S runs the same Windows 10 Surface Hub software currently on the previous model but on a slimmer frame. It is priced at US$9,000 and will start shipping in June.
The 85-inch version’s price has not been released but it will reportedly ship at some point in 2020.
Designed specifically for collaborative work experiences, the screen features a 4K camera and an 8-element MEMS microphone array for optimum video conferencing.
Users can interact with its 4K+ resolution screen either by touch or with Microsoft’s Surface Pen stylus.
As the 2S screens are essentially a Windows 10 PC with a TV-like screen, they can run Microsoft’s entire suite of software and services, including Microsoft Office 365.
The 2S models include a removable cartridge that will be upgraded in 2020 to the Surface Hub 2X.
The Surface Hub 2X will reportedly upgrade the CPU, RAM, and GPU to a new OS and enable rotation and tiling of up to four Surface Hub 2 display features.
The Hub 2S accessories include a separately sold wheeled stand dubbed the “Steelcase Roam” for easily transporting it to various boardrooms that also features a built-in battery to power the Hub 2S — pricing and release date not confirmed.
