Super Screen: LG 1mm 3D TV Hits CES ’12

LG’s new ‘Cinema Screen’ Smart 3D TV’s for 2012 sports a reduced bezel (frame around the LCD) of just 1 mm, and will bring more optimal and comfortable viewing, says the maker.

The slimmed down bezels removes physical obstructions to allow greater immersion of 3D special effects, reminiscent of  cinema screens and basically means the LCD frame is now at its smallest ever.

But this isn’t all the LG boffins have been slimming down –  there are also new slimmer 3D glasses on the way, which are 20 percent lighter than its previous plastic specs, and promise to be more comfortable allowing for longer viewing.

And LG’s new slew of 3Ds now not only have skinnier edges – other clever innovations are also on the cards including gaming experience called Dual Play, made for two gamers pleasure.

On screen Dual Play, similar to Sony PlayStation TV, lets players see two entirely different full images, as opposed to the traditional split screen, where each player has to focus on half the screen and comes with special glasses.

In addition, this year’s Cinema sets also boast 3D Sound Zooming, generating audio output which is synchronized with the location and movement of on-screen play, so lets out audio sounds to complement visuals.

The South Koreans latest screen innovations will be on show at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which kicks off tomorrow, with the maker also tipped to launch its highly anticipated answer to Apple iTV,  running Google Android and boasting a voice activated ‘magic’ remote control.

“The 3D experience is still evolving and we at LG intend to push the limits of what 3D can deliver,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Home Entertainment.

“With our 2012 CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, we have been able to take a significant step forward, thanks to a series of new and upgraded 3D features led by the CINEMA SCREEN Design.”
