LG to Debut Capsule Beer System at CES 2019
LG has announced it will unveil a capsule-based beer making machine, LG HomeBrew, at CES 2019, no doubt to the delight of beer-loving techies.
The LG HomeBrew has already won a 2019 CES Innovation Award and promises to streamline the entire homebrewing process from fermentation, carbonation, and ageing to serving and cleaning.
LG’s fermentation algorithm controls the fermentation process with precise temperature and pressure control and the capsules keep cleaning needs to a minimum — unlike traditional home-brewing methods.
The HomeBrew capsules come in five popular flavours, definitely with craft beer lovers in mind: American IPA, American Pale Ale, English Stout, Belgian-style Witbier, and Czech Pilsner.
The capsules contain the main beer ingredients — malt, yeast, hop oil, and flavouring — and the process begins with the press of a button.
The HomeBrew can produce up to five litres of beer in approximately two weeks depending on the beer type and its status can be checked via a free companion app — available on Android and iOS devices.
After it’s finished brewing its latest batch, the machine automatically sanitizes itself using only hot water readying itself for the next brewing process.
“LG HomeBrew is the culmination of years of home appliance and water purification technologies that we have developed over the decades,” said Song Dae-Hyun, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company.
“Homebrewing has grown at an explosive pace but there are still many beer lovers who haven’t taken the jump because of the barrier to entry and these are the consumers we think will be attracted to LG HomeBrew.”
Much like baristas doubt the efficacy of coffee capsule devices, no doubt brewers will look at this system in horror. However, there’s no doubt that it will be a hit when attendees to CES 2019 will be served a HomeBrew beverage at the LG station this coming January in Las Vegas.
