Denons CEOL: WiFi, Spotify + Airplay $799
The stunning new Denons have Wi-Fi, so you can stream music from the Net, Spotify inbuilt, Apple’s Airplay to stream iTunes from iPhone, iPad, Mac or PC and a full array of connectivity options: two analogue inputs, digital optical connector, subwoofer output, USB in, Ethernet port, FM Tuner antenna, iPod dock connector.

Both Ceol (it means music in Gaelic) systems are available in black or white, have identical internal components and audio decoders but the Ceol piccolo is the smaller of the two with less connectivity options and costs $200 less.

The main unit of both Ceol’s powerful 65W + 65W audio amp and the amplifier response extends to 20kHz for optimum reproduction of high res music. The speakers includes a contour function that tailors the sound quality to match the characteristics of the speakers.

The higher spec CEOL cost $999 is comprised of a RCD-N8 core unit with a CD player which reads MP3 and WMA format music from CD-R/RW discs and SC-N8 speakers. It also has a headphone port and

input for playback from portable music players.

The $799 CEOL piccolo has a smaller unit and speakers (piccolo is Italian for small) but no CD player or front music port.

But the CEOL piccolo has the same iPod dock, digital optical connector, analogue input, subwoofer output, USB in, Ethernet port, FM Tuner and iPod dock connector, which is iPod/iPhone (30-pin) compatible.

Denon’s CEOL family are suitable as a desktop or tabletop music system, or to upgrade the sound of a big TV, say its maker.

Both models are capable of Gapless playback, removing any pause between music tracks and can switch to low power consumption in standby mode once fully charged.

The precision audio decoder supports high resolution files up to 192 kHz/24 bit, including WAV and FLAC files.

The Denon music systems can be controlled with an Android phone, tablet, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch via Denon remote app.
