Next week the iPhone 15 Series lineup announcement is expected to take place, and along with switching to USB-C charging, the biggest upgrade will be to the cameras, due to some insider information.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
These models will have a 48MP main sensor, however, reports suggest it won’t be the same 48MP as the current iPhone 14 Pro. Instead, they will gain a new Sony sensor, stacked design, assisting with readout and low light quality.
Main camera: 48MP, f/1.6
Ultrawide: 12MP, f/2.4
iPhone 15 Pro
This model will retain the 48MP main sensor from the current iPhone 14 Pro, however, will gain a new ultrawide camera. Improvements should be expected for the telephoto camera quality despite the same hardware.
Main camera: 48MP, f/1.8, Sony IMX803 1/1.3″
Telephoto: 12.7MP, f/2.8
Ultrawide: 13.4MP, f/2.2
iPhone 15 Pro Max
This model will have the same main and ultrawide cameras as the Pro, but will exclusively premiere the new periscope zoom, with reports it can go between 5x and 10x.
Main camera: 48MP, f/1.8, Sony IMX803 1/1.3″
Telephoto: 12.7MP, f/2.8, 85mm periscope lens, 1/1.9″
Ultrawide: 13.4MP, f/2.2
The new periscope has been reported to be an 85mm equivalent lens, with f/2.8 aperture, and 1/1.9 inch sensor, meaning the zoom will be around 4x. To go to 5x and beyond, some digital zoom would be required.
Some analysts are even suggesting Apple chose to make the periscope an exclusive feature of the Pro Max due to space constraints.
The Pro Max’s camera module is expected to be noticeably larger than the Pro and previous generation Pro Max.
The 2024 iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are also expected to be even bigger (6.3 inches/6.9 inches), with periscope in both models.
