IFA 2018: LG Brings 8K Battle to Samsung

8K televisions will be the new flashpoint between electronics manufacturers, with LG and Samsung using IFA to display their newest giant screens. As previously reported, Samsung intends to bring an 85 inch 8K QLED screen to the masses in October 2018.

Not to be outdone, LG has brought out their own 8K screen, though they have been light on details so far. LG is drip feeding information about the screen, but we should know more as IFA progresses.

What we do know is that the screen will be 88-inches, use OLED technology and will be 7680 x 4320 pixels, resulting in 33 million self-emitting pixels in total.

LG are promoting that the market for 8K explode, commenting that 5 million units are expected to ship by 2022. Whether consumers are ready just yet to move from 4K to 8K is unknown, but LG is betting that they will and quickly.

There is no release date or pricing as yet, but we may get more details as IFA progresses.
