Huawei Expands Its ‘MateBook’ Mobile PC Range

Huawei have renewed their push into the notebook market with the introduction of a new range of MateBook PCs.

At an event in Berlin, the company unveiled three new Windows 10 notebooks that are set to target three distinct corners of the market.

“At HUAWEI, we strive to bring new advances to market that inspire people to imagine and explore what’s next – our new flagship series of beautifully crafted MateBooks makes this possible,” said Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu.

The flagship 13-inch MateBook X is Huawei’s take on the MacBook Air and similar devices, and follows up on the company’s first Windows 10 notebook, the original MateBook, released last year.

Despite its relatively small fanless design, the MateBook X packs in a 7th generation Intel Core i7 or i5 processor depending on the chosen configuration, along with Dolby Atmos sound and a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button.

The MateBook X’s 13-inch display is not a touchscreen, but it does feature a 2K resolution with a 4.4mm bezel for 88% screen-to-body ratio and a 3:2 aspect ratio

Meanwhile, Huawei will take on devices like Lenovo’s Yoga Book with the 2-in-1 MateBook E. It features a Folio Keyboard similar to the original MateBook, a 2K touch screen display and an Intel Core i5 or m3 processor.

It also features Dolby Audio Premium, and can be partnered with some of Huawei’s new accessories, like the MateDock 2 and the MatePen.

Rounding out Huawei’s new notebooks is the 15.6-inch MateBook D. Featuring a traditional notebook design, the MateBook D can be configured with either an Intel Core i7 or i5 processor, as well as an NVIDIA GeForce 940MX Graphics card with 2GB GDRR5 video memory.

Pricing and availability has not been confirmed for Australia, but Huawei said the new MateBooks will begin shipping in the Northern Hemisphere summer.
