Fresh off scooping up plenty of honours at IFA, Hisense is committed to bringing previously pricey RGB LED backlighting technology into the mainstream.

Consumer-sized models ranging from 55 to 100 inches have been confirmed for 2026.

Hisense and Samsung both unveiled the world’s first ultra-large LCD TVs with RGB LED backlights this year.

Those debut units delivered an expanded colour gamut, improved zone dimming and higher efficiency. But the size (at least 115 inches) and price (around $48,000) meant the early models were always going to be confined to deep-pocketed early adopters.

But at IFA, Hisense confirmed the 2026 successor to its U9 range will include TriChroma miniLED – Hisense’s branded version of RGB LED backlighting technology – in far more accessible sizes and prices.

Indicative European prices are listed at €1,499 ($2,450) for 55 inches, scaling up to €4,999 ($8,150) for 100 inches.

The 2026 line is expected to feature Hisense’s HiView AI Engine X processor, support refresh rates up to 165Hz, and include a new anti-reflection coating.

Industry sources also suggest rival Sony is preparing RGB LED models between 65 and 115 inches in 2026, though the company has not yet confirmed this.

Support for Dolby Vision 2 also appears likely.

Hisense’s 116-inch UXQ, powered by MediaTek’s Pentonic 800 chip, was the first TV to ship with Dolby Vision 2.

Analysts expect the 2026 range to follow suit. Whether current models such as the U8Q and U7Q Pro will receive firmware updates remains an open question.

If delivered at the price points that have been flagged, RGB LED could emerge as a genuine rival to OLED and MicroLED.

That could help shift a once ultra-premium technology into the reach of mainstream consumers.
