A previously unknown Dick Smith linked entity called Mac1 which operated as an Apple reseller in WA has been snapped up by a Harvey Norman after the Company was also placed into administration.
Mac1 employees who are still waiting to get their entitlements following the collapse of Dick Smith and Mac1 have been sent a letter by Dick Smith administrator Joe Haynes from McGrathNicol who informed them that the business and assets of Mac1 would be sold to HN Mac 1, an affiliated Harvey Norman entity.
He told employees that ‘employee entitlements could not be paid until the company itself was placed into liquidation as there was currently a claim against Mac1.
He said he expected the issue to be resolved in time for the second creditor meeting to be held in June 2016.
Mac1, was purchased by Dick Smith nearly two years ago for the reported price of $1.
The chain had two stores in Western Australia, at Westfield Innaloo and in the Perth CBD, they also had stores in other States.
Mid 2015 questions were raised by some retailers as to the high volume of orders placed by Dick Smith management for Apple products.
Management said that their Move stores were “shifting large volumes” however some insiders have told ChannelNews that Dick Smith was buying for overseas entities that were on-selling Dick Smith sourced Apple products.
