GoPro Announces Tradeup Program

GoPro is offering a potential discount on its latest action cameras in an effort to spur sales amid disappointing earnings and extensive job cuts.

The GoPro TradeUp program, currently only available in the US, allows customers to trade in an old GoPro to receive either a US$100 discount on the company’s flagship HERO 5 Black, or a $50 discount on the compact HERO5 Session.

Any previous-generation GoPro HERO camera can be traded in, and the cameras can be in any condition, whether they are “dead, missing components or even melted in a fire” according to GoPro.

Despite the GoPro HERO5 Black being the best selling digital imaging device in the US and EMEA during the final quarter of last year, the company continues to disappoint financially. Last month, GoPro cut 270 jobs in an effort to reduce its operating costs, following cuts of about 100 jobs in January and more than 200 jobs in November last year.

GoPro have not announced if the TradeUp program will be expanded outside the US.
