Google To Give Pixel-Style Overhaul To Chromebook

Reports say that Google is preparing to launch a fresh bid for the notebook market with a new ultra-premium Chromebook.

Supposedly code-named ‘Eva’, the new Chromebook is said to feature a 2400×1600 pixel resolution, fingerprint scanner and Kaby Lake Intel processor.

According to Chrome Unboxed, ” this new Chromebook is being equipped with features the Chrome OS environment has never seen.”

Google Assistant is also ti”pped to be a major selling point for the device, with the feature set to get a dedicated button on the new Chromebook’s keyboard.

The news comes as a bit of a surprise, given the telegraphing by Google’s senior vice president for hardware Rick Osterloh that the company was pivoting away from building their own Chromebook.

During an interview with TechCrunch earlier in the year, he indicated the company will no longer be making and selling Chromebooks directly – or at least under the Pixel brand that’s now become their vehicle for selling smartphones.

Osterloh later clarified over Twitter that “Google’s own Chromebooks aren’t “dead” as has been reported.”

“They will live on, we just have *no plans to share at this time*,” he said.
