EXCLUSIVE: Directed Electronics Lands EZVIZ Security Cameras After Losing Eufy Deal
Directed Electronics has moved quickly to secure the Australian distribution rights for EZVIZ, a US-based award winning consumer security camera brand, just weeks after Chinese smart home giant Anker pulled its Eufy security camera business away from the Merlbourne based distributor.
The appointment signals a significant shift in Australia’s rapidly evolving smart security market and sets the stage for an intensifying battle between security brands including Eufy, Reolink, Swann and the increasingly aggressive EZVIZ.
Industry sources claim Eufy has experienced slowing sales momentum in recent months, while Reolink continues to expand through direct-to-consumer channels and online sales.
They have also recently secured extensive ranging at JB Hi Fi.
In the past EZIVIZ has won multiple design ards including a Red Dot Award.
At the same time, EZVIZ has been gaining traction in several international markets where consumers are increasingly seeking affordable, feature-rich alternatives to premium security brands.
The competitive pressure is also mounting for Swann, which earlier this year lost both its Australian CEO and Marketing Director amid ongoing market challenges.
The arrival of EZVIZ is particularly noteworthy given the brand’s previous presence in Australia.
Officeworks once carried an extensive range of EZVIZ products before unexpectedly discontinuing the line and then confirming a move to house brand products.
According to EZVIZ Country Manager Jock Jones, the company has already secured retail ranging agreements, with retailers indicating that the home security category remains one of the strongest performing segments in consumer electronics.
“Security continues to be a resilient and growing category,” retailers told ChannelNews.
Independent reviews across key international markets show that EZVIZ cameras are attracting positive attention for delivering HD, 2K and 3K video quality at prices that often undercut competitors such as Ring, Arlo and Google Nest.
The company is also competing directly with Chinese rival Reolink, who also sells extensively through its own website and Amazon.
Reviewers frequently highlight EZVIZ’s strong night vision performance, ease of installation and competitive feature set. However, one recurring criticism is that the EZVIZ mobile app lacks the refinement and user experience offered by some competing platforms.
The company has also faced scrutiny over its historical links to surveillance giant Hikvision. Questions have previously been raised, including by ChannelNews, regarding the relationship between the two companies.
Hikvision products are banned in several countries, including Australia, due to security concerns.
EZVIZ management maintains that its consumer business operates independently, with the company headquartered in the United States and its current manufacturing and development operations separate from the banned entity.
Notably, while Hikvision products remain subject to restrictions in the United States, EZVIZ products continue to be sold freely and are not included in US Federal Government bans.
EZVIZ was originally established by Hikvision in 2013 as a dedicated consumer and residential security division. Since then, the brand has evolved into a global smart home security player with distribution across Europe, the United Kingdom and Australia.
Today, EZVIZ is positioned as a competitively priced smart home security brand built on technology foundations originally developed within Hikvision, while operating as a standalone consumer-focused business.
The brand’s growing popularity is reflected online, with Amazon ranking several EZVIZ products among its top-selling security cameras.
