Computex 2014: 5-In-1’s, Slim Tabs + Acer’s ‘Liquid Leap’

Computex 2014: 5-In-1But the event is no longer just about computers. 

There are over 50 wearables on show at Computex, according to reports including the Acer Liquid Leap smartwatch, as the company looks to move beyond its reputation for PC’s.
Asus’ new line up was also one of the standouts at this year’s event held in Taipei, announcing a bundle of goodies including the hybrid 12.5″ Transformer Book V – with 5 modes – Android Phone/Tablet/Laptop + Windows Tablet/Laptop. 
The phone has a 5 inch screen, and is powered by Intel’s Atom quad-core processor while the laptop has a Next Gen Intel Core Processor under the bonnet. 
The magic all happens thanks to a dock in the rear where the smartphone sits, which helps transform the device and interchange between operating systems. 
Previously the Asus benchmark for hybrids was 3-in-1 modes capable of transforming from a  tablet to a PC/notebook. 
There’s also the Asus Ultra thin tablet, the Transformer Book T300Chi with an impressive 12.6″ 2560×1440 resolution screen. 
Liquid Leap
PC giant Acer Liquid Leap – its first wearable device – was also announced.
The touch-screen smartband tracks users’ fitness including steps, running distance, calories burned, and sleeping cycle. 
It’s on 24/7 and features incoming calls and SMS notifications, up to 7 days of battery life, Bluetooth 4.0, and is waterproof to IPX7 standard.
Liquid Leap comes in bight shades – Moonstone White, Mineral Black, Aquamarine, Fragrant Pink, and Vivid Orange.

Acer also unveiled four Liquid smartphones including Liquid X1 smartphone with a powerful 8-core processor, 5.7″ screen and LTE (4G), and is to hit the market soon, although no word on local availability.  

It will bundle Liquid Jade smartphone with Liquid Leap in some markets. This smartphone is a 5 inch HD screen with Gorilla Glass 3, 13 MP main camera and runs Android 4.4. 
Both start shipping from Q3 2014.  
An Iconia Tab 8 with Full HD display and Intel Atom quad core processor running Android Kit Kat, was also unveiled.

Acer also bagged a Design & Innovation Award at Computex 2014 – for its new Aspire V 13 notebook.

Other new products announced include: HP Android-Notebook and Chromebook, while Dell unveiled two new Venue Android tablets and new convertible laptops.
Chip maker ARM are to open CPU design centre in Taiwan, it was announced, as Intel appears to be making gains in the mobile market.
