Users of the cloud based service were told ” Google Docs is temporarily unavailable — please try back later.”

However, the service interruption was temporary and appears to have resumed this morning.

The problem affected around 4 per cent of its user base, a Google spokesperson.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support.

Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better”

Google Docs is the internet giant’s answer to Microsoft’s Office suite and currently its software services are free although they charge a fee to business users with over 50 employees.

Google’s “software as a service” is one of its fastest growing businesses and this latest venture is “like a set of training wheels for the cloud,” says Shan Sinha, Google product manager has previously said.
