Panasonic has just launched two high-performance FZ series cameras – the DMC-FZ150 (replacing the FZ 100) and the DMC-FZ47 replacing FZ40)- offering all the ‘landmark’ Lumix features, including full HD AVCHD recording, 25mm LEICA2 lens with uber powerful 24x optical zoom.

The Lumix DMC-FZ150 boasts “amazing capabilities in sensitivity and speed” with its 12.1 megapixel MOS sensor and Venus engine, and if night pics are your thing the ‘intelligent handheld nightshot’ allow steady night shots without a tripod.

It captures video with 1920 x 1080 50p full HD progressive standard AVCHD recording and high speed continuous shooting at 12 frames p/s in full resolution.

The Lumix also boasts ‘light speed’ auto focus of around 0.1 second.

The second newbie, DMC-FZ47 also has 12.1MP, 1920 x 1080 full HD 50i AVCHD video recording (sensor output 25p), fast as lightening start up thanks to ‘sonic speed’ auto focus and accurate focus tracking.

Both models also boast high-quality LEICA lens with ‘Nano Surface Coating technology’ to help minimise nuisance  light reflection and ghosting.
And as with previous models, the new DMC’s maintain extensive manual and creative control when shooting both still and video images, say Panasonic.

Tools like ‘creative control’ and photo modes allow photo enthusiasts to apply artistic effects to images.

“These models are a step up from the successful FZ100 and FZ40.  They offer popular features such as Full HD AVCHD recording and a LEICA lens as well as excellent creative control modes in both still and movie recording, and with a faster response time you will never miss that photo opportunity.”Alistair Robins, Lumix Marketing Manager, Panasonic Australia.

Both cameras also offer the full suite of iA (Intelligent Auto) features for intuitive control, including power OIS (Optical Image Stabiliser) with active and motion deblur modes, face recognition, face detection, AF tracking, ‘intelligent ISO control, scene selector and D-range control.

Price wise, the DMC-FZ47 will set you back $649 , here in mid Septmber while the Aussie price of the DMC-FZ150 has yet to be confirmed, although it is retailing in US for $500 and won’t be landing til mid October.
