“We’re excited to announce that Sparrow has been acquired by Google!” Sparrow CEO Dom Leca announced on its site over the weekend. Sparrow’s hailed email app for Apple’s iPhone and Mac gives users access to multiple email accounts – be it Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail – in one unique mailbox, and is described as “the simplest way to get to inbox zero.” The move comes as Apple has sought to reduce its millions of users dependency on Google apps – including Maps, Earth – by developing its own in-house mapping system. In return, Google released Chrome brower specifically for iPhone and iPad, and this latest purchase looks to be another offensive move against Apple. And it’s “full speed ahead” for the newly Google’d Sparrow team, says Leca. “Now we’re joining the Gmail team to accomplish a bigger vision — one that we think we can better achieve with Google.” |

| The Paris based start-up said it will continue providing the mail app service to Apple customers, despite being snapped up by its rival, Google who makes the Android OS.
“While we’ll be working on new things at Google, we will continue to make Sparrow available and provide support for our users,” Leca said. No word on how much Google coughed up for Sparrow, however.
