Could Netflix Be Killing The Basic Plans?

Netflix have begun the process to kill off the ad-free basic plan, beginning trials in Canada.

It was noted the Basic plan was no longer available to sign up to in Canada, and anyone wishing to purchase the cheapest plan, would have to settle for the ‘Standard with ads’ tier, which costs $5.99 CAD.

The next tier up for anyone who hates ads with their streaming is the Standard tier, which costs $16.99 CAD.

In Australia, the basic plan with ads costs $6.99 AUD, the basic plan without ads costs $10.99 AUD, with the standard costing $16.99 AUD and the premium costing $22.99 AUD.

Basic plan subscribers that are currently subscribed will be able to keep the package for now.

“The Basic plan is no longer available for new or rejoining members. If you are currently on the Basic plan, you can remain on this plan until you change plans or cancel your account.”

With Netflix being an international service, it is very likely this move will make its way across the world, some time in the near future, with waters just being tested and trialed in Canada.

The company is already trying to hide availability of the Basic plan when someone attempts to sign up for a new account, which means the next move of killing the tier is inevitable.
