Cisco Lays Off 500 Workers

Cisco Systems has laid off nearly 500 workers in its factories in San Jose, Milpitas and Bengaluru. It’s the company’s second round of layoffs in 12 months and comes after Cisco reported better-than-expected Q4 earnings.

Most of the cuts are in the company’s engineering division, with Cisco saying the layoffs are to ensure investments and resources are aligned with strategic growth areas of the business and customer demands.

Cisco, which produces routers, switches, software and services, last week reported Q4 earnings of US$2.21 billion. The company has also laid off dozens of employees at its Indian facilities, despite them being on the improve. It has more than 11,000 employees in India.
