Cisco boss Chuck Robbins says the current computer chip shortage will last at least another six months. Robbins told the BBC the increase in demand during the pandemic surprised many.
“We think we’ve got another six months to get through the short term,” he said. “The providers are building out more capacity. And that’ll get better and better over the next 12 to 18 months.”
Robbins’ assessment is important because 85 percent of the internet uses the networking giant’s systems.
US President Joe Biden has already flagged it as a long-term issue and urged business leaders to make the country a world leader in computer chips amid the ongoing trade and technology war with China.
