Shortly before the case was set to reach trial, Apple has agreed to settle a lawsuit presented by headphone market Koss, who accused the iPhone maker of infringing their headphone patents.
Whilst the case was set to reach the courtrooms on Monday, the two companies told the Waco, Texas federal court that the issue had been resolved. The case was dismissed the same day by US District Judge Alan Albright with prejudice, meaning that it cannot be refiled.
Apple was sued by Koss in 2020, with the latter accusing the former of infringing several patents relating to its wireless headphone system, that was developed in the early 2000s.
Koss was concerned that it’s technology had “had become standardized, with whole listening ecosystems having been built around the techniques Koss conceived over a decade ago.”
Apple argued that its products did not breach and countersued shortly after, with the argument that the initial lawsuit brought confidential information from licensing discussions between the two.
Whilst details of the settlement have not been disclosed, the filing has said that the companies have settled “all matters in controversy between them.”
Koss has also sued several other headphone makers including Bose and Skullcandy.
