Amazon To Make Podcasts Pay
SEATTLE – While Apple’s podcast service is free, users can now have access to a far smaller slate of podcasts for a fee at Audible, an audio books service owned by Amazon.
Audible is pinning its hopes that avid podcast fans will pay US$4.95 a month for Channels, a selection of ad-free original podcasts, comedy performances and audio renditions of written articles.
While Apple has dominated the space, companies like Amazon, Google and Spotify are beginning to creep in. Channels is Amazon’s first major foray into the business.
