Amazon Announce New Waterproof Kindle Paperwhite

Today, Amazon has released an all-new redesigned Kindle Paperwhite in their highest-resolution display yet (300 ppi) with a waterproof rating of IPX8 from just AU$199.

The all-new reimagined Kindle Paperwhite features their notable glare-free screen, a sleek flush-front display, and IPX8 waterproofing, so you can read comfortably by the pool, at the beach, in a bath, hot tub, or in the rain.

The waterproofing is a big draw, it’s IPX8 rated to protect against accidental drops in water and immersion in up to two metres of fresh water for up to 60 minutes.

It is the thinnest and lightest Kindle Paperwhite yet, 8.18mm thick and weighing 182g, and features a soft, gripping material so it’s more comfortable for long reading sessions.

The six-inch, high resolution 300 ppi display features laser-quality text that reads like real paper. It includes five LEDs and an adjustable front light for a glare-free display in any setting, even direct sunlight.

This Kindle Paperwhite is available with 8GB, twice the storage as the previous generation, or 32GB for storing even more content and larger file sizes, like comics.

The new Paperwhite features an updated home experience that makes it easier to find new reads and allows readers to personalise their Kindle experience by selecting their preferred font, orientation settings, and more — the updated home will be available to the all-new Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Paperwhite Gen 6 (released in 2013) and newer devices in the coming weeks.

The all-new Kindle Paperwhite includes all previous generations’ features including Whispersync, X-Ray, Word Wise, Smart Lookup and integration with Goodreads.

Kindle e-readers come with instant access to the Kindle Store, Kindle Unlimited (subscription service from $13.99 a month) and early access to your choice of one book from a curated list of six new books a month before they are officially released via Kindle First for $1.99.

Amazon has also released a range of protective covers with a thin design that snaps perfectly onto the Kindle Paperwhite available in leather in rustic ($89.95), or coloured leather in black, merlot, red, indigo, or purple ($59.95), or a water safe fabric cover in charcoal black, yellow, or blue ($44.95)

The all-new Kindle Paperwhite is $199 for the 8 GB model and $249 for the 32 GB model. The 32 GB with free cellular connectivity is $369. All are available today for pre-order in Australia at Amazon.com.au and JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, The Good Guys and Myer and will start shipping November 7.
