LG Display now exclusively produces OLED EX panels, meaning the 2023 range from TV makers such as Hisense, Sony, and Panasonic will boast screens that are 30 per cent brighter than traditional OLED sets.

This is great news for the OLED technology as a whole, which has struggled with brightness levels, especially when compared to the older LCD technology.

According to FlatPanelsHD, the new OLED EX panels use a combination of deuterium compounds and personalised algorithms to result in a brighter output. LG Display claims this results in “the truest, most natural colours on screen.”

LG Display supply panels to close to two dozen TV brands, we are likely to see an industry-wide leap in picture quality in next year’s models.

Samsung’s QD-OLED panel is the only alternative to LG Display’s OLED EX panel on the market – this panel features in Samsung’s S95B and Sony’s A95K.

Even if 2023 televisions aren’t marketed as OLED EX, odds are they will be.

This isn’t a guarantee, though; LG Display’s plants in Paju, South Korea, and Guangzhou officially made the switch to this technology in the second quarter of 2022.

Some 2023 TVs may still feature the older, stockpiled OLED panels.
