8K Games To Stimulate 8K TV Growth
8K games and consoles are forecast to stimulate 8K TV demand next year, according to latest insight from Taiwanese trade sources.
Both Sony and Microsoft are tipped to launch gaming consoles which support 8K images in 2020, with ‘household gaming titles’ tipped to propel 8K TV growth.
According to Taiwanese trade publication, Digitimes, 8K TV development has recently gained momentum, citing LG’s world-first 8K OLED TV, Microsoft’s Xbox Project Scarlett and the release of Realtek Semiconductor’s 8K TV chip.
Microsoft’s Project Scarlett is reportedly similar to Sony’s PlayStation 5 specifications including; 8K image support, CPUs, SSD storage capacity and CD-tracking.
Realtek’s 8K TV chip claims to upgrade a 4K TV platform into a fully functional 8K one – supporting 8K AV1/HEVC/VP9 video decoding, and converting low refresh rate 8K video into 8K 60Hz content.
The chip is positioned as a very cost-competitive 8K TV solution, supporting all 8K video processing formats including HDR.
