Banks Urged To Disable Pay-Wave

The committee said financial institutions that issue debit and credit cards should create an “opt in” function that would require customers’ consent before contactless payment technology features are activated.

The committee received submissions from many organisations including Australian Federal Police, the Reserve Bank, Tax Office and the Attorney-General’s Department.

Victoria Police said it had seen a “significant increase” in deception offences motivated by “tap and go” technology.
