Tesla’s Home And Biz Batteries Take $800 Million In First Week

If those sales are realised, it would be almost as much as the company took in from car sales in the entire first quarter of 2015. The batteries link with renewable energy sources including rooftop solar panels and wind farms to make it possible for renewables to be used as an energy source around the clock.

“It’s like crazy off-the-hook,” Musk said. “The sheer volume of demand here is just staggering.”

Musk claimed the production of storage batteries alone could “easily” take up the entire capacity of Tesla’s $5 billion “gigafactory” in Nevada, which is scheduled to open next year – and which he will no doubt have to make bigger.

Musk has predicted thousands of gigafactories are likely to be built round the world – presumably including Australia.
