Yahoo And Microsoft To Continue Search Partnership
The updated agreement reaffirms commitments made by the companies in their original 2009 agreement, and will provide Yahoo with “increased flexibility to enhance the search experience on any platform”, with the partnership non-exclusive for both desktop and mobile.
Yahoo has stated it will continue to serve Bing ads and search results for a majority of its desktop search traffic.
Under the amended agreement, the companies’ sales teams will be integrated with those responsible for engineering, allowing “both companies to service advertisers more effectively”.
Microsoft will become the exclusive sales force for ads delivered by its Bing Ads platform, with Yahoo to continue to be the exclusive sales force for its Gemini ads platform.
“Over the past few months, Satya [Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella] and I have worked closely together to establish a revised search agreement that allows us to enhance our user experience and innovate more in our search business,” commented Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer.
“This renewed agreement opens up significant opportunities in our partnership that I’m very excited to explore.”
