HP Supply Arch Rivals Notebooks To CBA Because Their Models Don’t Stack Up
It’s also been revealed Hewlett-Packard will sell a new line of networking switches that depend on Linux-based, open-source software from another company.
It’s a major shift of focus for H-P, which says it won’t be making the new networking equipment but will act as a reseller.
It will provide both online ordering and worldwide support for the products.
In October HP CEO Meg Whitman announced the company would split into two separate enterprises, one focused on business, the other on consumer products.
The networking move is an indication of the type of changes H-P is making. The group took in US$2.6 billion last year from its proprietary networking business.
The open-source software will be supplied by Cumulus Networks, which last year announced it would supply Dell with software for inexpensive networking boxes.
