Business report says, however, that the value of e-commerce in the Australian
economy leapt 8.2 per cent from $246 billion in 2012-13 to $267 billion in
2013-14.

According to the report, the proportion of businesses that received orders via
the Internet rose three percent to 33 percent. However, standout figures show
just 47.1 percent of Australian businesses have an online presence-
 steady with last year.

And a large percentage  (63 percent) of micro-businesses with four staff
or less and small businesses with 5-19 staff (41.9 percent) don’t have a Web
presence.Even among medium-sized enterprises – those with between 20 and 199
employees – around 19pc are not present online.

Despite the poor online presence, there was a large year-on-year upswing in the
number of companies investing in IT. The figures show 42.5 percent of
Australian businesses had introduced some form of digital business innovation
during 2013-14, up from 36.6 percent during 2012-13.

Nearly a quarter introduced new digital goods and services, while the
percentage of businesses now developing some form of digital business
innovation jumped to 24.7 percent, up from 22.8 percent a year earlier.
