Software Update Brings “Boost Mode” To PS4

Sony Interactive Entertainment are rolling out the 4.50 update for the Playstation 4 tomorrow, adding new features to the console and PSVR experience.

Your Playstation 4 has evolved with the 4.5 update,” the company said in a video.

The big features being added here include support for external hard drive discs, new social and sharing functionality as well as some major technical refinements.

It’s also going to bring a new “Boost Mode” to owners of the PS4 Pro, which promises to improve performance on all software titles.

“This feature has been designed to provide better performance for select legacy titles that have not been patched to take advantage of the PS4 Pro’s faster CPU and its faster and double-sized GPU,” Sony said in a blog post.

Previously, such performance improvements were only possible on software that had been optimised to do so.

Meanwhile, PSVR users will notice an improvement in the frame rate of content viewed in Cinematic Mode from 90Hz to 120Hz.

The software update is expected to roll out within the next 24 hours.
