Samsung Washing Machine Recall 84% Complete

Samsung Australia has provided an update on the washing machine recall it first initiated in April 2013.

Over 84% of the six top loader washing machine models affected by the recall have now been reworked, replaced or retrieved for a refund.

Samsung said that, when an affected machine is operated in certain circumstances, “there is a chance that moisture may penetrate the electrical connectors of the affected machines, which can cause a fire hazard”.

A total of 331 recall cases with confirmed issues have been identified by Samsung to date. According to Samsung’s data, there are still about 22,000 affected washing machines that have not been reworked, replaced or retrieved.

In a statement, the company said it “continues to encourage customers to check the model details of their top loader Samsung washing machine, to determine if their model is impacted by the product safety recall.”

The affected top loader washing machine model numbers are:

• SW75V9WIP/XSA
• SW65V9WIP/XSA
• SW70SPWIP/XSA
• SW80SPWIP/XSA
• WA85GWGIP/XSA
• WA85GWWIP/XSA

Samsung is urging customers who may be impacted by the recall to visit samsung.com/au/washingmachinerecall or contact the product safety hotline on 1800 239 655.
