Oz Post Deliveries Hit New Record, Driven By Online Sales
Australia Post was expected to process a record number of parcels through its delivery centre yesterday, largely driven by a major increase in online purchases. With two million parcels to be delivered, the day was tipped to be the biggest in the nation’s history.
The company’s parcels exec Bob Black said Oz Post had experienced unprecedented early volumes of parcels since October, many of them bought online. “We’re finding close to 30 percent of all online purchases occur in the three months leading up to Christmas, and that’s on the back of a 15.9 per cent growth in online shopping this year,” he said.
Black said more posties and delivery drivers had been called to handle the load, while an additional 1500 people had been brought on to help in processing facilities, while Australia Post shops will be open longer.
