MYOB Users Hit By New Scam

Accounting software company MYOB has been hit by scammers, according to mailing and security outfit MailGuard. The episode, which began on Tuesday and escalated swiftly at more than 100 e-mails a minute, has become one of the biggest scam e-mail attacks detected by the company in the past 12 months, MailGuard says.

“[The e-mail] looks realistic – it’s well formatted and contains MYOB branding,” said Mailguard chief executive Craig McDonald.

But if the target clicks on the link to a supposed invoice, a zip file containing malware is downloaded. The malicious software quickly installs itself to run every time Windows starts and progressively steals private information keyed into Internet browsers.

MailGuard claims to have pioneered a range of cloud security systems to provide protection against malware, spyware, viruses and spam.
