Lexar Drives High-Speed Storage And Workflow At WRC

Lexar will provide removable storage and workflow products for every race event at the World Rally Championship.

Trackside GoPro cameras and DJI drones covering the race from the air will both contain microSD cards from Lexar, while CineFlex cameras in helicopters following the action will run on Lexar’s Compact Flash cards.

“The Lexar storage cards and workflows are integral to the production and broadcast of every race,” CEO Filmworks and Head of Production Marco Viitanen said.

“There are four Lexar CFast cards in every rally car capturing video from all the in-car cameras and capturing telemetry data that is used by the teams and in the video production.”

The cards are removed at the completion of each stage, where they are flown securely by helicopter to the race production studio, featuring Lexar Pro Workflow Hub card readers for fast transfers.

Lexar cards are built to withstand harsh conditions like those encountered in WRC races, and robust safety features ensure the cards will survive any major crashes.

“The WRC management and broadcast teams’ feedback is that the high reliability of the Lexar cards gives them the confidence that their valuable images and data are safe – once the footage has been shot or the data collected there are no repeats or re-runs,” said Mr Viitanen.
