Branson Tries $1 iPhone Plan

Virgin Mobile has laid down the gauntlet to its rivals in the USA by offering an iPhone on a US$1 plan. But there’s a catch – the $1 only lasts for six months: after that the plan will cost US$50 a month.

The service has a 23GB monthly data limit with streaming video capped at 480kps and music at 500kps.

A new Virgin network, called Inner Circle, was launched by Richard Branson. And it seems that, in the US at least, Virgin has abandoned Android devices entirely, counting on Apple’s popularity.

Virgin will sell the iPhone SE starting at US$279 for the 32GB version, a steep discount from Apple’s $399 pricing.
